United Way of Lake County’s 33rd Annual Day of Caring Brings Community Together to Give Back

June 20, 2025 (Mentor, OH) – United Way of Lake County’s (UWLC) hosted its 33rd Annual Day on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, uniting volunteers from across the county to take part in a day of giving back. A total of 24 community projects were adopted and completed by 237 volunteers from 14 local businesses and organizations.

Over the past 33 years, UWLC’s Day of Caring has matched nearly 16,887 volunteers with 1,474 community service project, a testament to the region’s ongoing spirit of volunteerism and collaboration.

“This event is a great reminder of the power of community,” said UWLC President & CEO Dione DeMitro. “Our volunteers not only help nonprofit organizations complete much-needed tasks, but they also demonstrate what’s possible when we work together.”

Day of Caring connects nonprofit agencies that need help with businesses and community groups looking to make a difference. Volunteer teams fanned out across Lake County to tackle projects like yard cleanups, mulching, planting flowers, weeding, painting (both inside and out), deep cleaning, organizing storage spaces, sorting donations, and building shelving.

“Day of Caring is just one day each year, but the impact lasts much longer,” added DeMitro. “The dollars saved by our nonprofit partners can instead go directly toward serving people in need. It’s a win for everyone involved.”

Projects took place in Kirtland, Mentor, Painesville, Perry, Wickliffe, Willoughby, and Willowick. Depending on the scope, some tasks took a few hours while others required half or full-day commitments, with several volunteer groups taking on multiple projects.

Those who took on projects include ABB, Avery Dennison, Fifth Third Bank, Hardesty family, Huntington, KJ Fasteners, Lake County Board of DD/Deepwood, Parker Hannifin, Platinum CLE Real Estate, Rea Business Advisors, Stefanek Regalbuto CPAs, VISA, Winter Equipment, and Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Individual community volunteers also contributed their time and talents
