Volunteers Needed for United Way of Lake County’s 27th Annual Day of Caring Thursday, June 27, 2019
April 29, 2019 (Mentor, OH) – Volunteers are needed to participate in United Way of Lake County’s (UWLC) 27th Annual Day of Caring. The event will be held Thursday, June 27, 2019. Along with seeking volunteers, the organization is also accepting projects from nonprofit agencies in need of assistance.
Each spring, United Way of Lake County coordinates the annual Day of Caring by connecting non-profit, civic and community projects with volunteers to make a meaningful impact throughout Lake County. This saves these agencies hundreds of dollars in labor, and very often even thousands of dollars.
Community volunteers work on a wide variety of projects which include things like indoor and outdoor painting, weeding, raking, trimming, gardening, spreading mulch, edging flower beds, planting and general yard clean-up. Projects also include hosting socials for groups of seniors and children.
Project completion times vary ranging from a just a couple of hours to a half or a full day.
“Day of Caring is an exciting day for us. It mobilizes the caring power of volunteers to make a meaningful impact throughout our community. We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers that donate their time to help others each year,” said UWLC President and CEO Jennifer McCarty.
Many local businesses and organizations take part in Day of Caring by coordinating teams of employees to spend a day giving back. According to Tami Lewis, UWLC Director of Marketing and Communications, “In addition to serving as a great way to give back, many businesses encourage groups of employees to participate for the team building and camaraderie the day provides.”

Last year, approximately 600 volunteers took part in 45 projects.
Over the 26 years that UWLC has made Day of Caring possible, they’ve recruited and paired more than 16,000 volunteers with over 1,345 community projects.
