United Way of Lake County Welcomes Three New Board Members 

Mentor, OH (April 6, 2023) – United Way of Lake County (UWLC) recently announced the addition of three new members to its Board of Directors: Craig Heath, Patrick Mohorcic, and Marwin N. Walling Sr.  

Elected at the March Board meeting, they will begin serving in April. Each brings with them a unique perspective and a determined drive to inspire greater giving, provide support and opportunities for Lake County’s most vulnerable residents, and uplift our community as a whole.

“The directors and I are proud to welcome these extraordinary leaders as new colleagues on the United Way of Lake County Board,” said UWLC Board Chair Michelle Graf. “These individuals will add great value to the organization with their expertise and unique perspectives from a cross section of our community.”

As UWLC continues to serve its community, its board is developing in diversity of backgrounds and skills to reflect both the needs of the organization and those they serve.

“It truly takes a village, from corporations, nonprofits, foundations and individuals, to make a difference,” said UWLC President and CEO Dione DeMitro. “As we continue to move forward in service and support of our agency partners and our community, I welcome the additional expertise these individuals will offer our team.”

Craig Heath: Superintendent, Mentor Public Schools

With a background in education, Craig Heath has been serving as the Superintendent of Mentor Public Schools since August of 2022. He began his career as a Spanish teacher at Mentor Lake Catholic High School before moving to Central Ohio where he taught at Bishop Watterson High School for three years. Prior to relocating back to Lake County, he worked for three large, high performing Central Ohio school districts. This included a sixteen year stint at Hilliard City Schools as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and a district level administrator. He then spent seven years working in the curriculum and instruction department in Dublin City Schools developing career pathways for students that connected the business and industry community with the four middle schools, three high schools, and one innovative learning center in the district. Health then served as the assistant superintendent for Delaware City Schools for three years where he led the PreK-12 academic team. He grew up in Lake County and is a graduate of Perry High School.

Patrick Mohorcic: Director of Public Finance and Chief Financial Officer. Lake Development Authority (LDA) 

As the Director of Public Finance for the Lake Development Authority, Mohorcic provides outreach to companies throughout the community regarding business financing options including the LDA’s bond financing programs, PACE energy efficiency financing, their CROP loan program, and other financing options. He also serves as the agency’s Chief Financial Officer, managing the budget and finances of the LDA and the Lake County Executive Airport. His responsibilities also include serving as the LDA’s Assistant Secretary to the Board of Directors. Previously, Mohorcic served as the Deputy Director for Planning and Development, focusing on strategic physical development initiatives around Lake County and implementing Lake County’s coastal development plan. He was also previously the Director of Workforce Development for the Lake County Board of Commissioners and the Economic Development Manager for the Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority. Mohorcic is a Lake County resident and currently serves as the Ward 1 City Councilman for the City of Willowick. He also served on several non-profit boards including Leadership Lake County, the Willoughby Western Lake County Chamber of Commerce, the Northeast Ohio Economic Development Exchange (NODE), the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA), and The Lake County Workforce Development Board. 

Marwin N. Walling, Sr.: Assistant Principal, Thomas W. Harvey High School

Marwin N. Walling, Sr. serves as one of the Assistant Principals at Thomas W. Harvey High School.  He is a lifelong resident of Lake County and a 1991 graduate of Thomas W. Harvey High School. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Ohio University in 1996 and a master’s degree in Educational Administration and Principal’s licensure through Ursuline College in 2015. Walling has been with the Painesville City Local School District since 1997 where he has served as a teacher, coach, mentor and athletic director. He is also an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Zeta Omega Chapter. As a chapter member, he sits on several committees and participates in scholarship and community outreach programs for residents. 

The new appointments to the Board will join the following Board members: Michelle Graf (Board Chair), Patti Gavorski (First Vice Chair), Brandi Haught  (Second Vice Chair), Karen Burton (Treasurer), Dione DeMitro (President and CEO), Morris Beverage III, Kerry Bliss, Rick Bumbgardner, Jeremy Iosue, Kerry Jonke, Ellen Foley Kessler, Maria Kula, Maria Manocchio, and Andrew Phelps.
