United Way of Lake County and President & CEO Dione DeMitro Honored at 2026 Smart Women Awards
MENTOR, OH — United Way of Lake County (UWLC) and its President & CEO, Dione DeMitro, have been recognized as a Progressive Organization by the 2026 Smart Women Awards for Northeast Ohio. The organization was celebrated during the annual Breakfast and Awards event hosted by Smart Business on July 8, 2026, at the Severance Music Center in Cleveland.
The Smart Women Awards program recognizes the achievements of leading businesswomen and organizations whose dedication and entrepreneurial vision continue to shape the economic and social fabric of Northeast Ohio. This year’s event celebrated female leaders, entrepreneurs, and advocates who are breaking barriers and driving innovation in their communities. The program featured a networking breakfast and an executive panel discussion moderated by Emmy-winning journalist Denise Dufala.
United Way of Lake County was honored as a Progressive Champion that deeply understands the issues facing women and children, recognizes their potential, and offers solutions that make a tangible difference. A key driver of this mission is UWLC’s affinity group, Women United. Through philanthropic efforts focused on giving, advocating, and volunteering, Women United engages and empowers a network of local women who volunteer their time, talent, and resources to uplift girls and women of all ages and backgrounds, making Lake County stronger.

DeMitro, who was also recently named Leadership Lake County’s 2026 Leader of the Year, was praised by award organizers as an exceptional executive whose career path reflects resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Her ability to navigate systemic change while remaining focused on mission and community impact has been a hallmark of her leadership. Just this past fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, DeMitro’s strategic direction led UWLC's investment of over $1.543 million dollars into Lake County in support of the community's most vulnerable residents.
