Volunteers and Project Submissions Needed for United Way of Lake County’s 33rd Annual Day of Caring

Mentor, OH – [May 2, 2025] – United Way of Lake County (UWLC) will host its 33rd Annual Day of Caring on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. The organization is now accepting projects from nonprofit agencies. They are also looking for volunteers to adopt project submissions.

UWLC’s annual initiative mobilizes the collective power of volunteers by connecting them with local nonprofit organizations to complete one-day service projects that support the community.

Community volunteers take on a wide variety of projects including tasks like cleaning, organizing, painting (both indoors and outdoors), weeding, trimming hedges, power washing, spreading mulch, and planting flowers. They also help host social events such as picnics, ice cream socials, and game days for children and seniors.

Project completion times vary, lasting anywhere from just a couple of hours to a half or full day.

UWLC’s Day of Caring helps local nonprofits save significant labor costs—often amounting to thousands of dollars—that can instead be directly invested into client services.

“Day of Caring is a meaningful way to introduce volunteers to the impact they can make in our community,” said Dione DeMitro, President and CEO of United Way of Lake County. “Many who participate are inspired to stay involved throughout the year. It’s also an excellent team-building opportunity for organizations, encouraging collaboration, service, and community connection outside the typical work environment.”

Those interested in volunteering or submitting a project can do so online at uwlc.org/doc2025. Questions can be directed to David Whittaker at dwhittaker@uwlc.org or by calling 440-639-1203.

In addition to funding critical nonprofit programs, United Way of Lake County serves the community in a variety of meaningful ways. These include organizing direct-impact initiatives such as food and clothing drives, food and Thanksgiving meal distributions in support of 40 local food pantries, holiday gift programs, and volunteer mobilization efforts for projects throughout the community.
