Women's Leadership Council Gender Pay Gap Discussion
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that women should not ask for raises. While speaking to a group of 8000 women in tech, Nadella said that women should have “faith that the system will give you the right raise” and that “it’s good karma” to not ask for a raise.
But researchers have found that not asking is one of the factors creating the gender pay gap. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the women in Ohio who work full time make 82.8 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn.
Women ask and negotiate salary about 8 times less often than men. Over the course of a career not asking can have a serious impact on women’s wages. But researchers have also found that women who do ask are viewed as assertive, abrasive, pushy and not likeable. What’s a woman to do?
If you have ever wondered if you should ask for a raise, or how to ask for a raise, or how to manage being assertive and likeable in the workplace - we have some answers for you. A panel of experts on this subject has been organized specifically for women who work in North East Ohio.
Join us on February 3, 2015 at Pine Ridge Country Club for a lunch and panel discussion featuring local business leaders paving the way for women in the workplace, and our moderator, Kathleen Buse, Ph.D.
