November 18, 2014 – Mentor, OH – United Way of Lake County distributed 460 turkeys Tuesday morning to more than 40 local food pantries in time for Thanksgiving as part of the nonprofit organization's Feed Lake County food drive campaign.
The need for food continues to increase in Lake County. According to 2-1-1, there have been 7,428 calls for food from January 1, 2014 through November 12. This is an increase from 7,080 calls for food during the same time period in 2013.
The Feed Lake County food drive is conducted every spring as Lake County companies and organizations run food drives and donate their food and monetary collections to United Way of Lake County. The money is used to purchase food to re-stock food pantries several times throughout the year. This past year, Feed Lake County raised more than $45,000.
Volunteers from Teen Challenge helped with Tuesday’s Turkey distribution.
United Way of Lake County plans to do one more food purchases and distribution on Saturday, December 6.
