Solstice Garden Party Raises Nearly $9K

United Way ‘s First Solstice Garden Party Raises Nearly $9,000 in Support of Women and Girls in Lake County

July 12, 2017 (Mentor, OH) – United Way of Lake County’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) hosted its first Solstice Garden Party Fundraiser on June 22, 2017 from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm in Kirtland’s Sanctuary and Regency Woods developments.

A total of 160 guests attended the event, which raised nearly $9,000 in support of women and girls in Lake County. According to Tami Lewis, UWLC’s Director of Marketing and Communications, “The funds raised will be used to support the WLC’s grant allocation program, which awards funds to local non-profits in support of programs whose missions closely align with that of our Women’s Leadership Council.”

Over the last three years, the WLC has awarded grants totaling $57,151, which includes $18,624 that was allocated on June 5 of this year to nine local non-profits with programs centering on helping women and girls.

Guests were treated to beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens where light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, music, and a raffle were also enjoyed. Lolly the Trolley was on hand to transport guests between homes.

Music was provided at each home and included the acoustic duo of Company Housing, the Larry Smith Express featuring Smith on the keyboard, flautist Judy Elias and harpist Jayden McDonald.

The Herbal Society was on-hand serving a variety of fresh herb and fruit infused iced teas, and Mooreland Mansion’s Restoration Garden Club presented a display of their rose garden over the years. Guests were also welcome to enjoy a short publication, “The Evolution of This Garden, Ten Years in the Making,” which documented the inception and evolution of one of the gardens in the mix.

Event chair, Bev Lee said, “We received a lot of positive feedback during the event and the next day from guests who complimented us on the evening and thanked us for a lovely and enjoyable experience.”

The Solstice Garden Party fundraiser was sponsored by Arcadia Glass House, the Bremec Group, Chardon Tractor, Ecolawn, Floor Coverings International of Mentor, Frato Landscaping, K & D, Libra Industries, MFG Kubota and Nature’s Way Landscaping.
