Harvey, a 90-year old frail gentleman, has lived a good life. Unfortunately, he had outlived his loved ones. He was alone. Instead of staying home and becoming isolated, he decided to call Laketran and get out of the house, even though he needs a walker to get around. Now, Harvey enjoys his time with new friends at the Wickliffe Senior Center where he thrives with the companionship of those who are in similar circumstances. He states, "The senior center is the backbone of my existence." Through your gift to United Way of Lake County, Harvey has formed a family that will sustain him through the rest of his life.
Every moment is precious...
Justin was not supposed to live more than five minutes after being born. He was physically and mentally compromised and his parents were consumed with medical bills, income loss and the care of Justin's two older siblings. The Infant Formula Program at Birthright supplied the expensive specialized formula necessary to provide Justin with his challenging nutritional needs. Because of your gift to United Way of Lake County, there was one less worry for Justin's family. They were able to surround him with love during his five months on this Earth.
Breaking the cycle of abuse...
Sandy, as a child, suffered physical and emotional abuse which continued into her adult married life. Eventually, Sandy gathered the courage to escape. She, along with her two daughters, went to the Forbes House, Lake County's domestic abuse shelter. Through counseling at Crossroads for her daughters and at Neighboring for her, Sandy has regained control of her life. As a result of your gift to United Way of Lake County, Sandy and her daughters have broken the cycle of abuse.
A child's smile is worth a million bucks...
Tim, a single parent, has been raising his four children despite the challenges of his disability. Without dental insurance, and barely making ends meet, his children were suffering with the consequences of painful cavities. At the Pediatric Dental Program at the Lake County Free Medical Clinic, Tim's children were able to receive the necessary dental care they so desperately needed. As a result of your gift to United Way of Lake County, Tim's family has a reason to smile.
